What is PMJS?

PMJS (Premodern Japanese Studies) is an online forum for the discussion of premodern Japan. Current members include educators, librarians, translators, curators, writers, and more. Postings range from discussions about research on premodern Japan to announcements of new publications, conferences, workshops, and employment opportunities.

Who can join PMJS?

We welcome anyone with an interest in premodern Japan to join the mailing list. Members receive listserv posts and are able to take part in online discussions.

How do I subscribe/unsubscribe to the PMJS Listserv?

Who can see my posts?

All posts are publicly accessible on Google Groups.

How do I access past messages that were sent to the listserv? Is there an archive of past discussions?

All posts can be accessed online at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/pmjs

How do I find information on X topic?

Visit https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/pmjs and use the search bar at the top of the page that says "Search for messages." Clicking the small downward arrow on the right next to the magnifying glass will also reveal advanced search options.

What am I allowed to post?

PMJS provides a forum for discussion on premodern Japan. We welcome the dissemination of information relevant to the field such as new publications, conferences, workshops, and job announcements. Commercial functions and advertising are discouraged. Your posts should be in some way related to the study of premodern Japan. How do I change my email settings to receive less/more from the listserv?

How do I change the email address I use with PMJS?

Unfortunately it is not possible to do a direct email change through Google Groups. You will need to follow instructions for unsubscribing and resubscribing to the group with the desired address. See our guide to subscribing and unsubscribing for help: Link

Help! I'm receiving two sets of emails!

It is possible that you have accidentally signed up with two email accounts. It is also possible one may be forwarding your email to the other. Please see our guide to subscribing and unsubscribing to see which emails you have PMJS accounts with. You may wish to unsubscribe one: Link

Help! My emails are getting rejected.

Please note that only people subscribed to PMJS can post to the mailing list. If you use more than one email, you may be logged into the incorrect email address and need to switch to the account registered with PMJS. See our subscription guide, which includes instructions on how to switch accounts: Link

Help! My emails are not going through.

If your emails are not going through (but have not been rejected), it is possible that they are awaiting approval by the PMJS Moderation Team. Our team will review your email as soon as possible.
